These pieces were culled from a live session at Lo & Behold in Hamtramck the second week of December. Classic Whale, instrumental and unforgiving, limited in number and handed out to friends.

This will be our first show since August and we'll have a new cassette available to celebrate. The release consists of three songs: Spanish Lion, Invisible Cities, and October. The cassettes will come half played, so it is up to listener to rewind a side, avoiding any A Side, B Side classifications. This tape is our experience as a collective, the tundra we've swam and the dreams we're dreaming.

The last time we played in Ypsilanti was in a garage with a band called Rah Dunes from San Francisco. The show was shut down about 10 minutes into our set- our guests from out west had to break down their stacks of modular gear (which they'd already set up) and haul it to a nearby house. It was hot, humid, and the show went very late but everything ended well and no one got in trouble. Regardless, we're happy to be in Ypsilanti again and look forward to another night of exquisite music.

Dally in the Alley, Saturday 12 September 2009. Mother Whale, 4/5 PM Garden Stage, Second and Hancock. 5 Dallys at that address, with the throbbing stage to the east, the playpen in the back, and the allys... A friend and A friend.
1998 Costa & Adam found themselves in a gathering like no other. Eastern Apartment. Friday after Labor Day. Mongoloid Spider steps dancing to the slick dew nestling the walls. A plethora of timpanis circling about in the warm wind, dancing the nemesis to its end, a warm head of course, and again.
Both had spent many such an evening in the eastern section of the capital, the middle of the lower region of the state, and had witnessed adroit incompetence at the idea of conflagration. This new confrontation with such ineptitude caused ethereal fluctuations in the mind cavities, & many an eye wandered around the thick dew, nestling and circling the chambers and pavements which they found themselves navigating.
This wasn’t a typical “Burn the couch”
Burn the tire
But a mockery of all things transparent.
And the evening withered to dither.

The next morning featured the street fair, ordinary in its geography, extraordinary in its cadence.
Sound throbbed the walls and ruined the cat.
Grad students sat withering across the way.
Sophmore.

In a conversation which transpired via message earlier today, Richard inaudably transfused a jockular taunt, which Adam resplied in fraternaspeak: "I don't think so."

Jesse Hoffman was raised on “the island,” an elongated formation in
the Detroit river that catches the ebb of it’s nomenclature to the
north, always maintaining it’s pristine serenity amidst the oil slicks
and deluge which circumnavigate it’s shores. Multifaceted instruments
adorned the Hoffman estate, thus nurturing his sonic endeavors and
providing the misce en scene for many an eclectic session. Honing his
geographic topography Mr. Hoffman is quite skilled in manning a Laser,
a two man bark, which has aided his configuration of the voltage
controlled storm he uses while whaling. Currently he is pursuing his
BA in Art Education which he began in 1998.

Adam Pierce traveled south from Flint in his 18th year to pursue a
more consistent education, which he did receive upon credited
completion a few flaccid semesters later. During this tenure he and
Mr. Hoffman met, as the former took multiple cigarette breaks while
the latter policed the northeastern quadrant of the campus, keeping
stickwielding letter-carriers and feral cats at bay. The two have
collaborated musically ever since, through many venues and many
implements. Today Adam sits amongst piles of “unreleased” material,
spends 35-40 hours a week dodging with drones and misanthropes, and
can mostly be found playing guitar, ranting, and recording the
multitudes of wildlife which abound in the night.

Richard Wohlfeil grew up amongst many a fracas on the hot, oscillating
blacktop of Wayne, between the two landfills which adorn the city and
are rumored to block the sun for most of the day. His family is a
lively and nurturing bunch who never fail to feed a hungry and thirsty
soul that may be caught wandering the flats of the western expanse.
Always a man of letters he spends his time translating the finest of
the French academics and hobbies in cataloguing the forgotten audio
lore of the region. He recently published his first volume of poetry
which is available in most independent bookstores and wherever the lad
may set up a stand. Mr. Wohlfeil holds the battery, configures
arrangements, and provides the bard’s accompaniment.
